However, these lights have a motion sensor sensitive to power blinks and electrical surges that can affect their functionality. For instance, when a power blink occurs, the light either stays “ON” or “OFF.”

Many people that power surges can break the light fixture, but this is not the case in most situations. It means you can reset the motion sensor light to make it function properly. Resetting the Motion Sensor Light: Step-by-Step

There are several reasons you motion sensor light will stay “ON” or “OFF.” Either way, it is a problem that you must fix to enable the light turn “ON” when it detects any movement and “OFF” automatically. The age, power surge, improper program settings, and storm damage can cause motion sensor light problems.

Step 1: Turn off the circuit breaker

The reset process begins with turning off the circuit breaker for at least 30 seconds. Do not leave the breaker off for a long time if the motion sensor light does not reset. Some products require the user to leave the circuit breaker off for 1-2 hours. Read the product’s instructional manual to know how long you should leave the circuit breaker off.

Step 2: Turn the switch “ON” and “OFF.”

Most often, turning off the circuit breaker will reset the motion sensor light. However, if the problem persists, you can apply the “ON” and “OFF” method. It requires you to turn the switch “OFF” for at least 3-5 seconds and then turn it “ON.” That way, your motions sensor light will be reset and function normally.

Step 3: Fast Switch the Motion Sensor Light

If the above two methods fail to resolve the issue, you can use the rapid switch technique to fix the problem. It requires you to rapidly turn the motion sensor light “ON” and “OFF” 4-5 times. 

Once done, leave the light “ON” and if it remains on for 10-15 minutes, turn it “OFF” again and leave it for 5-10 seconds. Next, you will turn the light back “ON” and this will reset the device. Although this method seems a little complicated, it works work for many homeowners.

Step 4: Unplug the Motion Sensor Light

If the above methods fail, as a last resort, you will unplug the motion sensor light. The technique requires you to unplug the power of the light and leave it for some time – i.e. 10-15 seconds. Once done, plug it back to turn “ON the light.

The above DIY methods can easily reset the light. However, if these fail to reset the light, you can call an experienced technician who will inspect the light and come up with solutions.
